Feast of St. George

Blessed feast of St. George! I hope you all had a great weekend!

Today’s Gospel discusses Jesus’ words that we are not of this world and that there will be a time when people will kill us because they will think they are offering service to God.

This was brought to fruition in the lives of most martyrs and saints of the church. For St. George, this was especially the case.

St. George was raised Christian and became a chiliarch or commander of one thousand troops, serving under the reign of Diocletian.

When he heard word that the emperor was preparing to persecute the Christians, he publicly denounced the emperor and was severely tortured. Nonetheless he never abandoned faith in the Lord.

Incredible signs came from his contest so that many were brought to believe in Jesus, including the wife of Emperor Diocletian.

May St. George intercede for us so that we may uphold the Truth given to us by our Creator, no matter the consequences we may face so that we may be crowned with the glory of God’s kingdom.
