The Wedding At Cana- Insights on the Theotokos

Today’s Gospel is about the wedding at Cana!

This story has become more meaningful to me because of what I’ve learned about the Theotokos’ role at this event.
.
At our ladies’ annunciation tea, the speaker and visiting priest explained that the Theokotos was not a guest at the wedding as Jesus and the disciples, but rather, she was serving at the wedding (this is why she knew there was a shortage of wine).
.
It is also thought that the couple getting married were friends of the Theotokos and that they were poor.
.
For the wine to run out at the wedding, it would’ve been an embarrassment, so out of care for her friends, the Theotokos approached her son.
.
While Jesus initially appeared to disregard His mother’s request, he obeyed her which is a testimony to His respect and love for her.

Aside from the amazing miracle Jesus performed, this story reveals the beauty of the Theotokos’ sweet character. It also is a testament to her faith in her son.

May we always remember to petition Our Lady and strive to acquire such virtue and faith.
