Holy Tuesday Reflections

I’m amazed at the significance of the passages we read throughout Holy Week! If you did your daily readings you probably noticed that they come from last night’s service.🙏🏼

This year, I approached Holy Week very differently, because I was intentional in learning more about each holy day. I read through most of a small book on Holy Week (60 pages or so) which described different elements of the services that are easily missed.

One of the major themes of today is Christ chastising the Pharisees.

While it’s easy to agree with Jesus and call out the Pharisees for their behavior, it’s not so easy to look to ourselves and identify those behaviors in us.

The Holy Week book I read discusses that Jesus uses this chastisement of the Pharisees as a chastisement for us as well.

Just like the Israelites who had the Grace of God before they rebelled against Jesus, we now have the Grace of the Lord, but we must take care that we don’t also fall astray and behave like the Pharisees.

This could be as simple as showing off when we pray & fast, acting superior over others, or praying long prayers without truly meaning what we say.

Thankfully, we have Christ’s reminder against such sinful behavior. It is up to us to heed his advice and practice our faith with intentionality and humility.
