Human Dignity
God loves His creation and expects that it be treated with love and dignity. Unfortunately, His desire for us has been perverted by our sinfulness which has led to horrific practices such as human trafficking.
.
Today, I attended a fundraiser which explained some of the sad truths about human trafficking:
.
🔺The average price set for a human being is 90 U.S. dollars.
🔺80% of people involved in human trafficking are women. HALF are children.
🔺There are approximately 20-30 MILLION slaves in the world today.
.
Bishop Nikitas, who presented at the fundraiser, pointed out that we abolished slavery in this country more than 150 years ago and today human slavery is on the rise.
.
It’s astonishing to think that such atrocities are a part of our modern world. It’s even more shocking that it’s happening here in the U.S.
.
Another facet of today’s fundraiser was learning about the efforts to help victims of trafficking.
.
In India, there is a nun, Sister Nectaria, who is working through the efforts of Bishop Nikitas and the PSOC to open a school for children who would otherwise be bought and sold as slaves.
.
While the school is established, it lost its accreditation and requires financial support so that it will regain its accreditation and provide the impoverished children a place of refuge.
.
A documentary was made that describes the situation of the children in India. I’m posting the link at the bottom of this caption.
.
Our Merciful Lord delivered the Hebrew slaves from the Egyptians through His servant Moses. It is our turn to use the blessings God has provided us to help those in slavery today.
.
